Sood & Company is a partnership firm formed in 2002 and based at Ropar in Punjab. We are a specialist geological, geotechnical and geophysical investigation contractor, working mainly for hydro-electric, transport and industrial clients across northern India and abroad.
The plant we use is owned rather than hired — core rigs, truck-mounted rotary rigs, pumps, compressors and generator sets — which is what lets us mobilise to remote sites at short notice and stay there for the length of an investigation.
Our work has also supported instrumentation on bridges, towers, thermal and hydro power stations and power houses throughout the north Indian region and beyond.
What we do
Investigation is the core of the practice: diamond core drilling, all classes of grouting, drifting and adit excavation, geophysical survey, plate load and in-situ testing, piling, deep tubewells and borehole logging. Alongside it we carry out slope stabilisation by rock bolting and shotcrete, and river survey work — collection of hydraulic data, fixing of bridge sites, and estimation of flow and flood discharge. Where we work
Most of our work is on Himalayan hydro-electric schemes in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and the north-east, together with deep tubewell work in Punjab and formation investigation for the railways. Projects have included Chamera-II, Parbati-II and III, Rampur, Pakal Dul, Singoli-Bhatwari, Devsari, Nyera Amari, Thana Plaun and the Gandhi Sagar pumped storage project. The clients we work for include NHPC, THDC, SJVN, NTPC, UJVNL, HPPC, RVNL, NBCC, Jaiprakash Associates, Patel Engineering, DCM Shriram, Greenko and Tractebel.
