The purpose of grouting is to reduce seepage to a level that neither costs meaningful storage nor erodes the foundation downstream of a dam. Curtain grouting forms the seepage barrier; consolidation grouting stiffens and strengthens the rock mass immediately beneath the structure.
Stage and packer methods let each section of hole be treated at its own pressure and mix, with intake recorded continuously so the curtain can be verified rather than assumed.
