Geophysical Surveys

Seismic refraction and electrical resistivity survey to map subsurface layers before a single hole is drilled.

Geophysical survey establishes the shape of the ground before intrusive work begins. Seismic refraction gives layer velocities and depth to bedrock; electrical resistivity distinguishes saturated from dry strata and locates cavities and fracture zones.

Run early, a survey tells you where to place boreholes rather than guessing, which usually pays for itself in drilling not done.

Seismic refraction method: energy source, detector spread and refracted ray paths through soil to bedrock
Seismic refraction: ray paths from the energy source to the detector spread give layer velocities and depth to bedrock.

What this covers

  • Seismic refraction profiling
  • Electrical resistivity sounding and profiling
  • Cross-hole and down-hole seismic testing
  • Bedrock depth and weathering profile mapping
  • Groundwater and cavity detection
